On carpets when removing a difficult spot that I could still barely see, I'd rough up a different spot a small distance away and suds it up a bit. It would draw attention away from the original spot.

Whats the theory behind that?

If it’s not smooth(textured or or it’s recessed in any way, it will collect soil, turn dark and look like a new hole in a matter of time.
