Any options besides cutting out and replacing? I got a call from an A/C company needing to fix a little mess for their customer that they caused. I've never had that problem, until now

complete WAG ( wild azz guess) Matt, based on using the stuff occasionally to seal asbestos duct tape on old house ductwork , I'd try the same stuff you've found effective on paint, caulk and adhesives ...cause it's kind of like all three

Funny, same thing with caulk. customer thinks it is no big deal -- usually maint in apts. Water clean up . But not after it is cured. ! ? Not So Much!!!
I have tried caulk remover in the past. Knowing however it is meant for the surfaces caaulk is supposed to be on!!

Matt, use a comb to lift and to act as a platform to scrub against.
Lift the fibers and try things in an ascending order of solvency. I recently got adhesive off a carpet for someone using Citrazov (sp?) and it came right out. The comb will help prevent delaminating the backing.

Matt, don't know what different kinds of mastic are used .
I've only used latex (as mentioned, they're not water soluble when cured)
Which it surely is by now
The stuff we've used is more "brittle/hard " than paint and caulk and somewhat "chip offable".
again another WAG, but maybe try to break/crack off as much as possible first by crushing with plirs or vise grips before going for strong solvents/strippers
