Ever time I start the machine, after the first job of the day, the thing back fires when starting. Obviously loading up at previous jobs shut down. I always run it at idle for a few minutes before turning it off. Any ideas? Carb or ignition??

I have a kawasaki water cooled motor and it would always backfires on me too while idling down. Scares the sh!t out of you and the customer too. I got to the point to turn the ball valve in the closed position while the machine is idling. It stops pumping gas into the carb. Hope that helps you. It works for me.

Better send out a service advisory when you find the fix for the problem.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Try a new air filter and a set of plugs.

Get a K&N Filter. Small air cooled engines play so much nicer with them.

I always run at idle w/o hoses attached. I put new plugs and air filteron - we'll see.

i thought those engines were supposed to be run to half throttle and then be shut down??? something to do with fuel??? sounds like the carb has some fuel left in it and thus explodes upon cranking???

call Butler and see if a service advisory has been issued!!!
